Crystal M.
Merlau

Born and raised in a family of
attorneys, Crystal Merlau has been immersed in the legal world
since she was a child. Crystal received her undergraduate degree
from Indiana University, distinguishing herself as a member of
the Golden Key National Honor Society. She found similar success
in law school at the Indiana University School of Law, receiving
Dean’s Honors and a merit-based scholarship. Her law school
achievements included serving as a Program Group Advisor to
first year law students, expanding her knowledge of
international intellectual property law with a semester in
Florence, Italy, and participating in the Sherman Minton Moot
Court competition. While in law school, Crystal supplemented her
education by working as a law clerk in both the public and
private sectors: as part of the Consumer Protection Division of
the Indiana Attorney General’s Office, she investigated consumer
complaints against nursing homes, and while clerking for two
private law firms, she assisted attorneys in all aspects of
civil litigation, with an emphasis on medical malpractice cases.
Despite the rigors of her education and work schedule, Crystal
always made time for community service, from designing computer
programs for the Division of Family and Children to officiating
at school and club sports events for preschoolers through high
school students.
Attracted to the natural beauty and recreation opportunities
in Colorado, Crystal moved here in 2003. As a senior associate, Crystal
distinguished herself as a dedicated lawyer and a quick study.
She soon developed a specialty in real estate matters, from
construction litigation to contract review to homeowner’s
association issues, and authored several publications regarding
real estate, construction and litigation for the National Business
Institute, which are now used by the Colorado Bar Association to
educate other lawyers. She also expanded her expertise in
personal injury cases, as well as gaining experience in criminal
matters, family law, and transactional work.
At Flanders Elsberg Nash Herber
& Dunn, LLC, Crystal continues to provide a range
of legal services for our clients, with her hallmark efficiency
and attention to detail. When away from the office, Crystal
takes advantage of our Colorado location by snowboarding,
skydiving, and horseback riding.
